Infant Killed and Toddler Injured in Houthi Shelling in Taiz
A 14-day-old infant was killed and a toddler sustained injuries on Friday following a Houthi artillery strike on the Al-Dhabab area in the rural outskirts of Taiz, Yemen.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms reported that its field team documented the death of the infant, identified as Mohammed Muhaib Saeed Abdo Qasim. The child was pronounced dead upon arrival at Al-Thawra General Hospital in Taiz city after suffering fatal shrapnel wounds to the head.
The shelling also resulted in injuries to two-year-old Ahmed Arif Abdo Qasim, who sustained multiple shrapnel wounds across his body. Reports indicate that the toddler is currently receiving necessary medical treatment for his injuries.
In a formal statement, the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms condemned the ongoing targeting of residential areas. The organization emphasized that the death of a two-week-old infant underscores the extreme risks and severe threats faced by civilians as a direct consequence of persistent attacks on densely populated regions within the conflict zone.
The network has issued a call for the immediate protection of civilians and an end to all attacks targeting residential neighborhoods. Furthermore, the organization demanded a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure accountability for those responsible for the strike.
