Taiz Rights Center Issues Urgent Appeal Over Houthi Shelling of Civilians
The Taiz Rights Center has issued an urgent distress call for international intervention to protect civilians in the southeastern districts of Taiz, following a renewed campaign of indiscriminate shelling by Houthi forces that resulted in the targeting of an ambulance.
The center reported that the latest attack occurred in the Sabir Al-Mawadim district, marking the second time in a single week that emergency medical vehicles have been hit while transporting wounded individuals. These assaults have severely disrupted the transit of casualties to medical facilities, exacerbating an already precarious humanitarian situation in the region.
In its formal appeal, the organization urged immediate pressure on Houthi militias to cease the indiscriminate bombardment and the ongoing siege of the Kahlan, Al-Aqroud, Al-Rahn, and Al-Arida areas. The center warned that these hostilities pose an existential threat to the local population and continue to obstruct the delivery of essential life-saving supplies and emergency medical services.
Local sources confirmed that the artillery fire targeted an ambulance in the Al-Shaqab area of the Sabir Al-Mawadim district, causing injuries to those onboard. This recurring pattern of targeting medical infrastructure has heightened concerns regarding the safety of civilians in the rural outskirts of Taiz, where residents are increasingly isolated from critical healthcare support due to the persistent military blockade.
