Houthi Militias Commit 75 Human Rights Violations in Taiz Over 48 Hours

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has documented 75 separate violations committed by Houthi militias in Taiz province within the past 48 hours, resulting in the deaths of nine civilians, including three children, and the injury of 24 others.

According to the report released on Wednesday, the casualties were primarily caused by artillery shelling and sniper fire targeting residential neighborhoods. In addition to the violence, the militia reportedly abducted 11 citizens, forcibly disappearing them to undisclosed locations. Among the victims, 11 children sustained injuries during the attacks, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Field teams reported that Houthi forces raided 11 homes and commercial establishments in the Al-Ma’afir and Al-Hujariyah districts. The intensity of the shelling resulted in significant infrastructure damage, with 13 homes impacted—five of which were completely destroyed—alongside the destruction of seven civilian vehicles. The network identified several specific victims of these abductions, noting that the targets included elderly individuals and those suffering from pre-existing medical conditions.

The network issued a stark warning regarding the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Taiz, citing the ongoing blockade and restrictions on the movement of essential goods, including food, medicine, and fuel. These impediments have severely strained the local healthcare system, which is struggling to treat the influx of wounded patients while facing critical shortages in medical supplies and energy resources.

The organization has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities against civilians and demanded the release of all forcibly disappeared individuals. Furthermore, the network urged the United Nations and the international community to take decisive action to ensure the protection of civilians and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, emphasizing that the perpetrators of these crimes must be held accountable to prevent further escalation.
