Yemen GPC Official Urges Shift Toward State Restoration and Sovereignty

Yahya Abdullah Duwaid, a senior member of the General People's Congress (GPC) General Committee, has criticized factions within the internationally recognized Yemeni government for prioritizing internal party disputes over the urgent national mandate to restore state sovereignty and institutional independence.

In a statement released via social media on Saturday, Duwaid argued that efforts to revitalize the GPC should not be reduced to the formation of factions comprised primarily of government employees seeking narrow political representation. He questioned the efficacy of such limited initiatives, suggesting that if the goal is to reclaim the party's historical role, the current approach is insufficient.

Duwaid proposed an alternative framework, advocating for the creation of dedicated movements focused on the restoration of the state, the preservation of national sovereignty, and the attainment of autonomous decision-making. He suggested that such initiatives could serve a more constructive purpose by addressing the pervasive political and bureaucratic stagnation currently affecting the government’s administrative ranks.

The GPC leader’s remarks highlight a growing frustration regarding the preoccupation of government officials with internal party dynamics while the state remains fractured. His critique underscores the disconnect between partisan maneuvering and the broader, more critical challenges facing the internationally recognized government in its efforts to stabilize the country.
