Yemen Displacement: 300 Flee Homes in One Week Amid Crisis

Approximately 300 individuals, comprising 50 Yemeni families, have been displaced from various regions to other governorates within a single week, as the ongoing conflict and deteriorating security and economic conditions persist, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The IOM stated in a recent report that its teams monitored displacement movements between August 2nd and August 8th, 2026. The organization indicated that Marib Governorate received the largest number of displaced families.

Data reveals that 20 families arrived in Marib, while 14 families were displaced to Taiz. An additional 15 families moved to the governorates of Lahj and Shabwah, with one family settling in Hodeidah.

The organization attributed 74% of displacement cases to concerns related to security and safety, escalating conflict, and economic pressures. Natural disasters accounted for 24% of the cases, while 2% were linked to health-related reasons.

This latest wave of displacement has increased the total number of families whose displacement has been monitored by the IOM in Yemen since the beginning of the year to 1,742 families, encompassing approximately 10,452 individuals, with the majority settling in Marib Governorate.

Marib hosts a significant number of displaced persons who have fled conflict-affected areas, placing increasing pressure on essential services, infrastructure, and local resources within the governorate.
