Masaam Dismantles 2,843 Mines and Unexploded Ordnance in Early June
The Masam project's demining operations have successfully neutralized 2,843 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices since the beginning of June, according to an announcement by the project's operations room. These efforts are part of ongoing initiatives to secure war-affected areas and protect civilians.
A statement released by the operations room detailed that the removed items comprised 2,708 unexploded ordnance, 104 anti-tank mines, and 29 anti-personnel mines, in addition to two improvised explosive devices. Engineering teams also cleared 635,652 square meters of Yemeni territory within the same period.
The statement further indicated that during the second week of June alone, project teams dismantled 2,045 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices. This included 1,927 unexploded ordnance, 98 anti-tank mines, 18 anti-personnel mines, and two improvised explosive devices. Field teams cleared 451,108 square meters of land during the past week as part of humanitarian operations to mitigate the risks posed by mines and unexploded ordnance.
In the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate, the project achieved a new milestone, bringing the total number of dismantled mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices since commencing operations in the area to 10,178. Additionally, 3,276,724 square meters of land have been cleared.
The Masam operations room affirmed the continued fieldwork by its engineering teams across various Yemeni regions, contributing to securing land, protecting civilians, and enabling residents to safely resume their agricultural and livelihood activities.
