Iran-backed Houthis refuse to hand over landmine maps to the UN

The Yemeni government said that the Iran-backed Houthis refused to hand over maps of the mines planted to the United Nations, calling on the international organization and the Security Council to take deterrent measures against them.

The Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights stated, in a statement, that the Houthis deliberately not to disclose maps of nearly two million mines planted in various regions.

The ministry said it receives daily monitoring of painful accidents in which children, women and citizens of all ages were killed, as a result of mines and IEDs.

Since the beginning of the war, the Iran-backed Houthis have indiscriminately planted a large number of landmines and IEDs in large areas, especially in Taiz, Saada, Hodeidah, Marib, Abyan, Lahj, Dhalea, Al-Jawf, Al-Baydha, Sana’a, Shabwa and other areas.

The Saudi "Masam" project, which works in the field of mine clearance in Yemen, has previously removed nearly one million mines from the liberated areas, while large areas are still contaminated with mines and IEDs.
