Fuel Shortage Threatens Shabwah Electricity Collapse

The General Electricity Corporation in Shabwah Governorate has warned of the imminent complete shutdown of the electricity system due to a depletion of diesel fuel required for power generation plants. Several districts have already experienced total power outages.

A responsible source within the corporation stated that complete power interruptions have commenced in several districts, with projections of these outages extending to other areas, including the provincial capital of Ataq, within the coming hours. This situation is exacerbated by the ongoing fuel crisis and the absence of new supplies reaching the generation plants.

The source further emphasized that the potential collapse of the electricity system poses a severe threat to essential services and vital facilities, particularly hospitals and service facilities that rely directly on electricity for their daily operations.

The crisis has reportedly worsened due to the obstruction of fuel shipments designated for the power plants. This obstruction occurred as oil convoys en route from Marib Governorate were prevented from passing in recent days, leading to the exhaustion of the remaining diesel reserves and forcing some power stations to cease operations entirely.

These developments coincide with growing concerns about the crisis's impact on the humanitarian and service conditions within the governorate, especially given the rising temperatures and the population's dependence on electricity for essential services.

In response, public calls and local efforts have intensified, demanding urgent solutions to the fuel crisis and ensuring the continuous operation of electricity plants. There are also calls to enhance the utilization of local resources to secure essential services and prevent the further escalation of the crisis in the near future.
