Aden Reports Over 1400 Dengue Fever Cases, 14 Deaths This Year
Aden, Yemen – The Ministry of Public Health and Population in Aden has reported a significant outbreak of dengue fever, with 1,475 cases and 14 fatalities recorded in the temporary capital since the beginning of the year.
According to the ministry's epidemiological bulletin, the period from January 1 to June 14 saw a total of 1,475 confirmed and suspected dengue fever cases. Laboratory tests confirmed 238 of these cases. The bulletin detailed that 14 deaths were attributed to the disease during the same period.
The district of Dar Saad reported the highest number of infections with 277 cases, followed by Sheikh Othman with 270 cases, and Al-Mansoura with 211 cases. The districts of Sheikh Othman and Al-Mualla each recorded three fatalities, the highest death toll by district.
Health officials attribute the continued spread of dengue fever to the proliferation of mosquitoes, the primary vector for the disease, exacerbated by deteriorating environmental and sanitary conditions. The ministry urged citizens to adhere to preventive measures, actively combat mosquito breeding grounds, and seek medical attention immediately upon the onset of symptoms.
Dengue fever is a viral illness transmitted through mosquito bites. Symptoms typically include high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, nausea, and in severe cases, can lead to dangerous complications and death.
