Tribal Clashes Erupt in Ataq, Shabwa Province

Violent armed clashes broke out between members of the Maraziq and Al-Bubakr bin Dah tribes in the Al-Mustawtana neighborhood of Ataq, the capital of Shabwa Governorate, on Wednesday evening, following a fatal dispute that has heightened tensions across the city.

Local sources reported that the confrontation was triggered by the killing of a man identified as Bin Majrah Al-Maraziqi, who was found dead on Tuesday night within the city center. Allegations that a member of the Al-Bubakr bin Dah tribe was responsible for the killing prompted the immediate escalation of hostilities between the two factions.

The outbreak of gunfire caused widespread panic among residents of the neighborhood, fueling concerns that the localized dispute could evolve into a broader tribal conflict. Both tribes belong to branches of the Awaliq confederation, a prominent group in the region, and the presence of armed individuals in densely populated areas has sparked significant alarm.

In response to the violence, community leaders and concerned residents have issued an urgent appeal to the Shabwa local authorities and security agencies. They are calling for immediate intervention to restore order, secure the safety of civilians, and prevent the expansion of the conflict within the provincial capital.

Prominent figures and tribal elders from both sides have urged members to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue. They emphasized the necessity of resolving the grievances surrounding Al-Maraziqi’s death through established legal frameworks and traditional tribal mediation to ensure justice, preserve peace, and avoid further bloodshed in the city.
