Student Killed in Ibb School During Houthi Military-Themed Training Exercise
A student was killed on Thursday morning inside a school in the Al-Udain district of Ibb Governorate, an area controlled by the Houthi militia, following a shooting incident that occurred during field activities associated with mandatory "cultural and military courses" being implemented within educational institutions.
Local sources identified the deceased student as Mohammed Adel Abdo Humaid Al-Shabati, the son of the director of Abdullah bin Masoud School in the Jabal Bahri – Al-Ashbout sub-district. He reportedly succumbed to a gunshot wound inflicted by a weapon belonging to one of his peers during what was described as the "final display" of the course conducted within the school premises.
The sources further clarified that the incident transpired amid the execution of a mobilization program recently mandated by the group. Days prior, the militia had circulated directives to secondary schools and public and private universities across Ibb Governorate, compelling student participation in the so-called "Al-Aqsa Flood Courses – Phase Two," which incorporate military-style training and activities.
This tragic event is part of a pattern of previous occurrences reported in areas under Houthi control, where several students have perished in similar accidents during the execution of military-themed training within schools in past years. This pattern continues to fuel mounting concerns regarding the militarization of the educational process and the direct exposure of students to grave risks within the school environment.
