Nearly 4,000 Yemeni Women Killed or Injured in Houthi Militia Atrocities
More than 1,400 Yemeni women have lost their lives in horrific abuses committed by the Houthi militias in areas under their control in Yemen over the past four years.
A human rights monitor disclosed in a report released Monday detailed statistics on victims of violence against women in Houthi-held territories, covering the period from early 2021 to the beginning of this year.
According to the report, 1,456 Yemeni women were killed and 2,379 others were wounded due to indiscriminate shelling by the Houthi militia, as well as explosions from landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted in civilian areas. The report also documented targeted shootings and the use of live ammunition by Houthi fighters.
Additionally, the rights group recorded 447 cases of abduction, enforced disappearance, and torture against Yemeni women in Houthi-controlled regions.
The report, stressed that "these grave violations, occurring amid a complete absence of international oversight, often rise to the level of war crimes and crimes against humanity."
It called for increased international pressure on the Houthis to allow independent investigative teams access to the affected areas, ensuring proper documentation of the crimes and urgent action "to end the ongoing slaughter of women and children in Yemen."
