Seven Dera al-Watan Soldiers Killed or Injured in Abyan Ambush

Five soldiers from the Dera al-Watan forces were killed and two others sustained injuries in a targeted armed ambush in the Al-Mahfad district of Abyan province, southern Yemen, on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

Local sources reported that unidentified gunmen intercepted a military vehicle in the Day'man area. The assailants opened fire on the personnel, resulting in immediate casualties among the Dera al-Watan troops.

Following the attack, the perpetrators seized the military vehicle and the personal belongings of the soldiers before fleeing to an undisclosed location. Security officials have launched an investigation to track the militants responsible for the assault.

The region has experienced a recent surge in activity from both Houthi cells and Al-Qaeda operatives. Observers and local authorities have increasingly noted a concerning trend of operational coordination between these disparate groups, which has contributed to the deteriorating security environment in the southern governorates.
