Houthi Blockade of Domestic Gas Supplies Exacerbates Humanitarian Crisis in Taiz

The Yemen Gas Company office in Taiz Governorate has reported that Houthi forces are actively obstructing the delivery of domestic gas supplies to the city, warning that the blockade is significantly intensifying the humanitarian and economic suffering of the local population.

In an official statement released Tuesday, the company condemned the restrictions, emphasizing that the deliberate denial of essential fuel supplies imposes severe burdens on residents already struggling under the long-standing siege. The company characterized the withholding of domestic gas—a fundamental necessity for daily survival—as a form of collective punishment that violates basic human rights and dignity.

The report highlights that the obstruction of these supplies is part of a broader pattern of using civilian necessities as leverage in the ongoing conflict. The local authorities have called for the immediate removal of all barriers preventing the safe and regular distribution of gas, urging international human rights organizations and relevant stakeholders to intervene and exert pressure to resolve the supply chain crisis.

The statement further stressed that the provision of essential resources is a humanitarian imperative that should remain separate from political and military maneuvering. The company underscored that the systematic deprivation of these goods is unacceptable and must be addressed to prevent further deterioration of living conditions for the city's inhabitants.

In recent weeks, Houthi forces have tightened their blockade on Taiz, restricting access to vital commodities while simultaneously escalating military operations across various fronts in the governorate. These actions have further strained the humanitarian situation in the city, which has endured a restrictive siege for nearly 12 years.
