US Central Command Strikes Iranian Missile and Drone Sites After Ship Attack
US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Friday that it conducted military strikes targeting Iranian sites used for storing missiles and drones, as well as coastal radar sites. These actions were in response to an attack on a commercial cargo ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, CENTCOM indicated that the strikes followed an Iranian drone attack on the commercial vessel M/V Ever Lovely, which sails under the Singaporean flag. The incident occurred on June 25 as the ship was departing the Strait of Hormuz, near the Omani coast.
CENTCOM asserted that the attack on the commercial vessel constitutes a violation of the ceasefire, endangers freedom of navigation, and undermines the security of one of the world's most critical maritime passages, through which a significant portion of global energy and trade flows.
The US Central Command affirmed that its forces are continuing to collaborate with partners to secure commercial shipping and ensure the uninterrupted safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. It added that US forces will maintain close observation of the situation to guarantee adherence to existing agreements and prevent any new threats to international navigation.
