A Yemeni ancient town discovered in Hodeidah

The ruines of Al-Manama, a Yemeni ancient town, have been discovered recently west of Zabid, south of Hodeidah (western Yemen), according to Yemeni historian and archaeologist Jaber Al-Zarnwqi.

Al-Zarnwqi said that he and a research team consisting of Mohammed bin Khadem, Wahb Allah Al Jaloum, Ali bin Mohammed, found the ruines of the historical town of Al-Manama buried under the shifting sands.

The town is located in the village of Al-Zawiya in Quraishiya, west of Zabid and to the north of the district of Tahita. It is a historical town on the coast of Tihama, and was surrounded by palaces and villages.

The town is even older than historic town of Zabid, but was underground.

The team said that the town has a large area estimated in kilometres, and that what was found were only ruins, while the majority of the town is still covered by shifting sand.

It appears from the Islamic architectural style found in the historic city of Zabid.
